Community and employers invested in Central Oregon’s children, families and workforce to create and retain affordable, accessible and quality childcare by increasing the amount of childcare openings in Central Oregon.

Release of RFQ for an Agency to Manage Micro-Center Nexus

The Central Oregon Childcare Steering Committee is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Qualifications for an agency to manage micro-center childcare locations in our communities.

We are actively working with our partners to ensure that our regional childcare providers have the necessary resources to get through these difficult times. Please click below for a list of resources.

Before COVID-19, 1 in 3 children were in need of a childcare spot in Central Oregon. This number has increased.

Prior to COVID-19, there were openings for only one in three children under the age of five in registered childcare centers and in-home providers. With COVID-19, we know this number has increased dramatically. This is a crisis for families, AND, it impacts employers who are struggling to attract and retain talent. To address the growing demand for childcare in our region a public private group was formed to address the crisis.

For babies, families can be on a childcare waiting list for at least 1-2 years in our region

Our Mission

Community and employers invested in Central Oregon’s children, families and workforce to create and retain affordable, accessible and quality childcare by increasing the amount of childcare openings in Central Oregon.

Our Approach

Our focus is on the economics of helping to retain and increase quality childcare options to expand, locate or build new and existing childcare facilities and in-home care facilities.

The Need

A group including Central Oregon Chambers, Governor Brown’s Regional Solutions team, Better Together, The Early Learning Hub, NeighborImpact, Central Oregon Health Council, TRACES, OSU-Cascades and COCC has created a Central Oregon Childcare Accelerator position to create and preserve more spots by working with employers, providers, and community leaders.

Our goal is to create and maintain
childcare spots

Our goals are the following:

  • Work with and support Central Oregon local governments to streamline childcare and reduce fees.
  • Help providers expand and create new facilities by helping them find land and buildings.
  • Link providers to financial resources to help them be viable and sustainable.
  • Link employers, providers and partners to create childcare spots.
  • Help providers by offering quality care that is safe and healthy.
